The Challenge

The EDEAL Business Centre is a business incubation centre in Polegate. EDEAL approached the LoCASE programme with the dual aim of reducing their energy bills and starting on the path to becoming a low-carbon business, as the current heating and lighting systems in their premises were old and inefficient.

The Project

Our energy audit identified a range of measures to help reduce both business costs and environmental impact. Recommendations included upgrading lighting to LED alternatives, insulating the roof, and replacing direct electric heating with high-efficiency storage heaters.

Following the audit, EDEAL successfully applied for a LoCASE grant with Carbon Smart’s support and have installed new LED lighting throughout, and programmable storage heaters to deliver low-cost heat when it is needed. LoCASE funding was able to provide 40% of the total project cost of £11,400. The works were carried out by a local electrical contractor, CDS electrical (pictured), in a timely and professional manner.

The Outcome

The installations have resulted in annual business savings of £1,500 and 5 tonnes of carbon and have a payback time of just 11 years, after which point the business will reap even greater financial benefits. The receipt of LoCASE funding has allowed EDEAL to create a more comfortable and productive workspace for staff and demonstrated their business appetite to become a sustainability leader in Eastbourne.
